Secret Recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies

My secret recipe for delicious
chocolate chip cookies

And I have 2 secret tips to make these even more flavorful than your average cookie.

This cookie recipe has been through so many changes. Add more flour. Take away flour. Change the butter ratio. Up the vanilla amount. Lower the vanilla amount. Definitely been a lot of testing. I think I could probably get a job on The Test Kitchen now.  :)

But, I have to say I finally have THE BEST Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies. And it's granddaughter approved.

Whip up a batch. You won't be disappointed. But be very careful ---- once you begin eating, it's hard to stop. So share with your co-workers or neighbors.

TIP #1: Adding butter flavoring
TIP #2: Refrigerating the dough for 5 days - yes 5 days. It DOES make a difference.

Makes: 3 dozen     Cook Time: 12-14 minutes

Ingredients:
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1-1/4 c. dark or light brown sugar
1 c. butter (melted and cooled to room temperature)
2 eggs (at room temperature for 30 minutes)
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. butter flavoring extract (TIP #1)
3 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
2-1/2 c. dark chocolate chips (Hershey's - 12 oz. bag)

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine sugars; add in butter and cream together with sugars. Add vanilla, butter flavoring and eggs,  mix well.

In a separate bowl, sift the dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture. Mix well. The dough will be stiff. Mix in the chocolate chips. Refrigerate covered dough in the bowl for 2 hours.

TIP #2 - BUT, if you want an even more flavorful cookie. Leave this dough in your refrigerator (covered) for 5 days. The flavor in this cookie dough gets even more developed and is worth the wait. You can even do like I do, make 1 batch after the 2 hour refrigeration - then put the dough back in the fridge for 5 more days. And make the rest then.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Scoop a tablespoon full of dough and form into small, rounded balls. Place onto parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake 12-14 minutes until edges are a light golden brown. Cool completely on parchment lined countertop.    Enjoy ~
